We have decorated the outstanding indoor environment at our West Bridgford nursery and pre-school in a natural and neutral colour scheme. This makes the foundation ‘feeling’ of the nursery one of softness and calmness. Children respond extremely well to this and it allows us to keep them balanced and relaxed throughout their days here. We never struggle to raise their excitement levels with our amazing resources and equipment – our Practitioners make sure that it’s in a way that suits each child and is part of a sustainable and enjoyable, rather than exhausting, routine.
Each piece of equipment in our age-specific rooms is carefully chosen to be perfectly matched to the stage of development of the children. Even within the four-year age range of children who attend Scott’s Wood Day Nursery, the needs of the children change from year to year – and, in fact, from month to month and even day-to-day. That’s why it is so important to provide appropriate equipment and resources that fully satisfy their potential for development, progress and advancement through that specific stage.
A fabulous example of how our equipment is perfectly matched to each room is the Community Playthings Nursery Gym in our Baby and Toddler Room. This is a beechwood structure comprised of a small slide, some steps, a curved bridge, a tunnel, and platforms. These features are all ideal for supporting and encouraging children at this stage of development to extend their physical skills, at a time when that is the area they are keenest to explore. As well as building their confidence in what they can physically do, this structure introduces them to different types of movement, teaching them the beginnings of ‘trial-and-error’ problem solving as they tackle the different obstacles, and social development as they help each other navigate the structure.
Our outdoor environments offer the same top-quality features, designed throughout to bring the most fun with the maximum development and learning. We have a canopied area in the garden that allows us to get the children into the fresh air in all weather and we have a large play space beyond that for exploration of movement, games, ride-on play, enjoying the moveable resources and time spent having fun with friends.
Our garden has the additional features of a large digging area, growing planters, a construction area, a big sandpit, dens and cosy areas, large climbing equipment, a Sensory Garden, a Mud Kitchen and a newly constructed Garden Room. As you can imagine, with all of this available to us, the children get a huge variety of outdoor experiences here at Scott’s Wood Day Nursery. In addition to all of this, we have ensured that the children can develop a deep connection to nature thanks to the range of trees and shrubs we have incorporated into our outdoor space. We feel that interacting with nature is one of the most vital and rewarding things children can do
