Our Nursery

Our Nottingham nursery in the heart of residential West Bridgford, on the corner of Selby Road, has been refurbished and extenisvely re-equipped to facilitate wonderful play experiences.

Scotts Wood Day Nursery in Nottingham, is actually located on the corner of Selby Road and Devonshire Road in West Brigford, a short distance from Central Avenue. So although we sometimes refer to our nursery as a Nottingham nursery, we primarily attract parents from the West Brigford and South Nottingham areas.

Scotts Wood has provided exceptional childcare since 1997, and occupies a large corner plot of land on Selby Road, West Bridgford. Our large detached building is a converted Edwardian home, and has plenty of character, with large rooms that give a light airy feeling and provide lots of space in which children can play and learn. Our Nottingham nursery was totally refurbished and re-equipped in the Summer of 2014, and is a beautiful space for our children to enjoy, with a homely welcoming feel in which we nurture and care for children and their families.

We’ve developed separate rooms for our babies, our toddlers, our 2 -3 year olds, and our pre-school children, enabling us to resource each room appropriately for the age group, and where they are cared for, nurtured and encouraged to explore and investigate depending on their preference.

If you visit our day nursery in Nottingham, you’ll see that it incorporates our own outdoor play space. While the babies have their own designated outdoor space, other children have access to a large variety of equipment, resources and toys, which allows us to develop age appropriate outdoor activities. The space has been carefully planned out to include some hard standing areas for children to experiment in our mud kitchen, build dens and role play spaces using crates, blocks and logs. The children also have opportunities for quiet outdoor time as they read stories and relax on cushions, while others explore the equipment and resources engaging in role play and ‘sports’ as well as ‘old fashioned’ playground games. We have designated digging and planting areas in our ‘Veggie Patch’ which we use to teach the children about growing and about food. We also have a large ‘sand play’ area and a ‘mud kitchen’ in which children can dig, build and experiment with sand, mud and water as they discover what can be done with these different materials.

We also organise our Weekly Woodland Outing where we take our Pre-school children to the local park/woodland. Here they are encouraged and supported to explore the woodland area, climb trees, build dens, make mud pies and investigate and identify the flora and fauna of the woods. Children take books to help recognise plants and wildlife and re-enact popular stories from favourite books such as ‘We're Going on a Bear Hunt’. Each session is followed by a story before heading back to nursery.

Whilst you wouldn’t expect to find a day nursery in Nottingham that combines a homely environment with such extensive outdoor facilities – and we appreciate that we’re lucky to have them – we have also worked hard to create the best indoor facilities too. Our baby and toddler rooms are equipped with resources such as sensory equipment, treasure baskets, and our toddler ‘play gym’ - carefully selected and designed to promote your child’s development. Our rooms for older children are packed with resources designed to offer children as much choice as possible and capitalise on their individual areas of interest including IT facilities that allow children to begin their learning in his area.

We are committed to remaining the best day nursery in Nottingham, and to providing ‘outstanding’ childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years of age, and our nursery facilities and environment form an important part of that.

We believe excellent childcare and education depends on:

  • Providing rich, enabling environments, and stimulating activities
  • Having knowledgeable, enthusiastic staff to support children’s learning and development
  • Working in partnership with the parents and families of the children in our care
  • Training, valuing and rewarding our staff for the crucial role they play in supporting children’s learning and development
  • Children and adults having fun!

We hope you agree – and that you’ll pop in to see us at Scotts Wood Day Nursery in Nottingham.
